The Story Behind the Weave:This vintage rug is over 20 years old and comes from Kerbia, the leader of the Timnay Association. Originally from Tiouine, a village located 20 km southeast of Ouarzazate, she now lives in Taznakht with her husband and three children. Made of 100% wool from the local sheep of the village, Kebira carded, brushed and spun the wool by hand. She then used local plants, spices and herbs to dye the wool. Kebira has been weaving for over 30 years, starting when she was young girl. She usually spends the beginning of her day doing house chores and after lunch switches to weaving until her children return from school.
The trellis design is thought to represent a good luck charm in the Amazigh culture with symbolizes protection and luck.
