The Story Behind the Weave:This Hanbel was woven by Mahma. Mahma is one of the senior members of Cooperative Tisseuses of Ain Leuh. This women only weaving Cooperative has existed since 1975 and now has 24 full-time members. Ain Leuh is located in the Mid-Atlas Mountains and is known for these intricate Zemmour Hanbels.Mahma, who has been weaving since she was a teenager, spent a total of three months building this intricate labyrinth that came from her imagination.Woven with 100% "live" sheep's wool, the colors are a combination of hand-dyed wool as well as wool bought from the local Souk. The hand-dyed wool utilized locally sourced herbs, vegetables and plants such as; Chamomile flower, Oak leaves, Walnuts, and Onion skins. Mahma's Zemmour Hanbel is the perfect mix of traditional techniques and modern design.
