The Story Behind the Weave:This rug was handwoven by Rabha.Rabha lives in a village outside the Todgha Gorge, where she learned to weave from her mother, Rokia. At almost 100 years old, Rokia has taught most of the women in the village to weave, but she has started to lose her memory. Now, Rabha has taken on the task of passing the weaving craft to the next generation of artisans—just as the women of this region have done for centuries. This vintage Hanbel is over 20 years old. It’s made from 100% live wool, which the women carded, spun and dyed themselves. The rich colors come from beets, flowers, pomegranate, saffron, indigo and mint. This piece represents generations of tradition and symbolism. For example, the middle diamond-like shape represents a spider, a symbol of magic in the Berber culture. Details like this give Rabha's unique rug character that will warm any home.
