The Story Behind the Weave:This vintage rug is over 30 years old and comes from the Takdisht village which is part of the Znaga tribe. Woven by 3 women in the Takdisht village, this piece has been passed down to the next generation. Made from all 100% live wool which was carded, brushed and spun by the ladies in the village, its thought that the artisans used plants, spices and herbs to dye the wool to achieve these vibrant hues. In more traditional vintage rug design, the symbolism is often a wish or depiction of the artisan’s life.
For example, the outer border is thought to represent protection against evil, the second border symbolizes the eight-pointed star. Based on the same structure as the Hamsa hand, an ancient amulet symbolizing the Hand of God, it is now thought to represent female fertility. The third border symbolizes respect.
Due to the age of this piece, you will find some light fraying on either end. With that said, with proper care, this piece will continue to last for many years to come.
