The Story Behind the Weave:This vintage Berber rug is over 65 years old. We purchased this piece in the town of Tabouraht from a woman named Aisha. This rug belonged to her husband’s grandmother, Touda. This vintage rug was made from 100% sheep’s wool. While the black is natural, the yellow was created using a blend of saffron and pomegranate dyes and the red was created with a henna and pomegranate blend. Touda was part of the Ait Wawzguid tribe in Anezal. This piece has unique dimensions because it was designed for the long, narrow hallways of the kasbah outside of Anezal. Due to the age of this piece, you will find some light fraying on either end. With that said, this is one of the softest rugs we’ve felt and the broken-in quality is very much part of is charm. With proper care, this piece will continue to charm for many years to come.
