The Story Behind the Weave:
The Association Le Vieux Village is a beautiful collective of women artisans just outside of Tazenakht.

This modernized
Boucherouite comes from Ija who belongs to the association but is quite camera shy. Naima, pictured, who is the leader of the association informed us about Ija's weave.

The Boucherouite (pronounced boo-shay-reet) weave is typically made up of various recycled clothing and textile scraps. In this specific rug, Ija updated this weave by incorporating wool that has been carded & brushed but not spun.

Using locally sourced plants to dye the raw wool, Ija used a combination of henna for the earthy reds and saffron for the vibrant orange.

This thicker wool juxtaposed with the textile scraps as the base allows for a dimensional rug that will add beauty to any home.
