The Story Behind the Weave:
The Association Le Vieux Village is a beautiful collective of women artisans just outside of Tazenakht.

This modernized Boucherouite comes from Ija who belongs to the association but is quite camera shy. Naima, pictured, who is the leader of the association informed us about Ija's weave.

The Boucherouite (pronounced boo-shay-reet) weave is typically made up of various recycled clothing and textile scraps. In this specific rug, Ija updated this weave by incorporating wool that has been carded & brushed but not spun.

Ija used a combination of locally sourced plants and spices to dye the raw wool while the base is used from yarn and old textiles.

It's thought the symbol in the middle represents an animal from the local landscape of Ija's village.

This thicker, unspun wool juxtaposed with the textile scraps as the base allows for a dimensional rug that will add beauty to any home.
