The Story Behind the Weave:
This Hanbel will be woven by Khadija.
Khadija and her mother-in-law were the first artisans we ever worked with and through the years they have become wonderful friends and taught us so much.
This style is called Hanbel. It’s woven with sheep’s wool from the local market. The colors are created with natural ingredients like henna, pomegranate, saffron, indigo, alfalfa and mint.
While the majority of the weave is flat, the designs have a slightly higher pile, giving this piece texture and dimension.
Every design element comes entirely from the artisan’s imagination - the symbols within this rug depict protection from evil, strength, beauty and respect just to name a few.
