The Story Behind the Weave:This vintage Beni Mguild was woven by and belonged to the Lhaj Thammi Family.
Residing in the Middle Atlas Mountains, the Thammi family is from a village just outside of the Guigou. This Beni Mguild is extra special to the family; the label on the back of the rug indicates that it was showcased at a local meeting with Moroccan government officials who came to admire the regional output of local artisans. This vintage rug was made of 100% wool and dyed with only natural spices.
This rug style is know for its versatility. During the cold winters of the region the family would use the thick, wool pile to keep the house warm yet during the warm months when extra warmth was no longer needed they had the ability to flip the rug over to use the flat side.
With simple geometric diamond shapes against bold colors these pieces radiate beauty. You will find some light fraying on either end due the rug’s lifespan, but with proper care, this rug will endure for decades to come.
