The Story Behind the Weave:This Hanbel comes from four of Naima's cousin. Naima who is a leader of the Association Le Vieux Village, which is a beautiful collective of women artisans just outside Tazenakht, is originally from a village 15km away.
This rug style is called Hanbel. It’s woven with sheep’s wool from that has been washed, carded and spun by the ladies in the village. The colors were created with natural ingredients like henna, pomegranate skin, saffron, indigo, alfalfa and mint. While the majority of the weave is flat, the designs have a slightly higher pile, giving this piece texture and dimension.
