This Boucherouite was woven by Saadia.
Saadia is one of the members of Cooperative Tisseuses of Ain Leuh. This women only weaving Cooperative has existed since 1975 and now has 24 full-time members. Pictured is Khadija, the President, and three senior members; Jamilla, Khaddouj and Hayat.
Ain Leuh is located in the Mid-Atlas Mountains and is known for these intricate Zemmour Hanbels.
Saadia, who joined the Cooperative 12 years ago wove this
Boucherouite runner two decades ago.
The Boucherouite (pronounced boo-shay-reet) weave is made of various recycled clothing and textile scraps. These rugs were not originally intended to be sold as they were mostly used in the weavers’ own homes.
