The Story Behind the Weave:This vintage Amazigh rug is over 40 years old and comes from the Ait Ouaouzguite tribe. This rug was woven by Jamilla's mother-in-law who was part of the weaving association located just outside of Tazenakht, a town known for its rich weaving history.
This vintage rug was made from 100% sheep’s wool. While the black is natural undyed wool, the colors come from a blend of saffron, henna and pomegranate skin dyes.
One tell-tale way to spot vintage rugs is by their odd shapes. Rugs like these, long but smaller in width, were made to fit the old Kasbahs of Morocco. Today, artisans work in more modern rug sizes. Due to the age of this piece, you will find some light fraying, with that said, with proper care this piece will continue to charm for many years to come.
