The Story Behind the Weave:
This piece is from Latifa who is the sister-in-law of Naima, pictured, who is one of the leaders of a collective of women artisans just outside of Tazenakht.

This weaving style is called Boucherouite.

Boucherouite (pronounced boo-shay-reet) rugs were not originally intended to be sold as they were mostly used by the Berbers in their own homes, as modest carpets. Some called them 'rag rugs' as they are made of various recycled pre-used clothing or textile scraps.

This piece is a combination wool and fabric. Wool is used for the base/loom while fabric is used for the decorative weave.

You will find some light fraying on either end due its lifespan. We've put patches on these spots. With continued proper care, this rug will continue to endure for decades to come.
