The Story Behind the Weave:This Hanbel rug will be handwoven by Mlouka. Mlouka is one of the leaders of a collective of women artisans just outside of Tazenakht. She's the matriarch of the collective and has passed the art of weaving down to her daughters, daughters-in-law, cousins, and villagers. Using 100% live wool and all natural spices, this piece is absolutely breathtaking. The rug’s base color comes from naturally dying the wool blue from an indigo stone, and the symbolism hand stitched and embroidered into the weave comes from henna, pomegranate, saffron, alfalfa and mint. Each rug is made entirely by hand so there will always be small variations in pattern, color and exact size (up to 10 cm variation) due to the organic nature of the materials but we strive to accurately capture the detail and color so you know what you’re getting. We do our best to visit the artisans every two to three weeks to capture the progression of the weave.
