The Story Behind the Weave:
This rug was handwoven by an elder who belongs to a beautiful collective of women artisans just outside of Taznakht, an area that has a rich weaving history.

Naima, pictured, is one of the leaders of the collective, and is in charge of passing the art of weaving down to her sisters, cousins, and villagers.

This vintage rug is quite unique as it incorporates two types of rug styles, Boucherouite and Hand-Knot.

The bottom quarter of the rug is a Boucherouite. Pronounced "boo-shay-reet" these pieces are made of various recycled or retired clothing and textile scraps. This style was not originally intended to be sold as they were mostly used in the weavers’ own homes.

The majority of the piece consists of 100% "live" wool, which was carded, brushed and spun by the artisan. The rug’s colors come from naturally dying the wool using various spice and vegetable blends.

The combination of rug style and design makes this piece truly one-of-a-kind.
