The Story Behind the Weave:This hand-knotted Zanafi style rug was handwoven by Malika. Malika is part of a women-only association located in Anzal, where she’s the prankster of the group, always trying to get her fellow weavers laughing. This piece is super unique as it’s a combination of two styles: Zanafi and hand-knotted. Malika wove this rug using live wool. While the majority of the rug uses natural, undyed wool, the hand-knotted portion of the rug uses henna, pomegranate, saffron, indigo, alfalfa, and mint to give color to the symbols. The symbols represent magical, protective properties.
