This rug was handwoven by the artisans of Aït Tigga.

Aït Tigga, located about 29 km east of Anzal, shares deep familial ties with the women of Anzal’s weaving association. Until 2021, the village could only be accessed via an off-road route, which led artisans to rely on the women of Anzal to help sell their finished rugs.

This monochrome piece beautifully blends two distinct techniques.

The Zanafi weaving style, originating in the High Atlas Mountains, is known for its reversible nature, where the symbols appear inverted on the opposite side—an impressive showcase of the artisans’ remarkable skill and attention to detail.

The low hand-knot technique adds a modern dimensional texture, creating a striking contrast that merges traditional craftsmanship with contemporary design.

Aït Tigga is a Village located about 30 kilometers east of the Village Anzal. Up until a year ago, Aït Tigga was only accessible via an off-road route, so the artisans of the Village would send their rugs to the women of Anzal to sell on their behalf. Thanks to a new road, the artisans of Aït Tigga are now able to sell independently. This collective of 12 artisans weave a variety of rug styles, but their specialty is called Kharita ("map" in Arabic). This complex weaving technique consists of a labyrinthine of geometric shapes and has the same design on both sides, making the rugs reversible.
