The Story Behind the Weave:
These two Flatweave x Hand-Knot rugs were woven by the artisans of Anzal.
Anzal, a village located just north from the popular weaving town of Tazenakht, has one of the first women owned and run weaving association.
In Anzal the weaving tradition is nurtured by the woman passing the skills down from generation to generation. Made from 100% live wool, the wool of the rugs was carded, brushed and spun by the women of the association.
It’s thought that this checkerboard design symbolizes barley and could be a wish for fertility for the weaver, or for the rug’s final home. The repeated geometric elements make this piece feel modern, although it represents thousands of years of tradition and symbolism.
* Please note, this rug was made to test out a variation for one of our existing rug designs. Anzal's Dimensional Lattice Rug is available to customize in any size you may need.
