The Story Behind the Weave:This rug was handwoven by Fatima.Fatima currently lives in Ouarzazate which is located in the south of Morocco and is known as the gateway to the Sahara Desert.
Originally from Anzal, a village with a strong weaving history, Fatima and her two sisters, Khadija & Latifa were taught how to weave by their Mom who still works today helping to dye wool for the weaving association in Anzal.Made with 100% "live" wool, Fatima carded, spun and dyed the wool by hand. The colorful design was derived by a blend of spices and plants such as indigo stone, saffron, henna, and pomegranate skin to name a few. This rug tells a beautiful story of color & symbolism. For example, the two middle zigzags is thought to represent a sickle which symbolizes respect in the Amazigh culture.
