This rug was woven by Fatima who resides in a village 20 km outside of Amizmiz which is based in the Al Haouz Province of Morocco.
Saida and her sister have recently started a village association of women weavers to help their elder neighbors sell their beautifully handcrafted rugs.
Fatima lives in a neighboring village and made this vintage Boucherouite (pronounced boo-shay-reet) decades ago. This Boucherouite is made of recycled yarn and wool.
This timeless piece represents generations of tradition and symbolism. For example the symbols in the middle represents a spider which symbolizes fertility and magic in the Amazigh culture.
These rugs were not originally intended to be sold as they were mostly used in the weavers’ own homes.
