The Story Behind the Weave:The Association Le Vieux Village is a beautiful collective of women artisans in Tazenakht.Hasna who has been part of the association spent two months making this beautiful Hanbel. It’s made from 100% live wool, which the women of the association carded, spun and dyed themselves.The colors were created with natural dyes like henna, pomegranate skin, saffron, alfalfa and mint. While the majority of the weave is flat, the designs have a slightly higher pile, giving this piece texture and dimension.In more traditional rug design the symbolism is often representative of well wishes for the artisan's life or those surrounding her. For example, the trellis like design is thought to represent a good luck charm in the Amazigh culture which symbolizes protection & luck. The symbol on the bottom right is named an Amzaigh fibula or Tazarzit. While the use is widespread among numerous North African tribes - its exact form is different from tribe to tribe, but tends to consists of a triangle beneath a semicircle. It's thought to represent femininity in the Amazigh culture.Details like this give Hasna's Symbolic Hanbel character that will shine in any home.
