The Story Behind the Weave:
This rug was handwoven by Khadija's Taytmatin, sister in the Tamazight language.

Khadija belongs to a female-only weaving association located 28km from the popular weaving town of Tazenakht.

While Khadija
still lives and weaves in the village that she was born & raised her sister moved about an hour north after marrying her husband.

Khadija and her sisters learned how to weave from their Mom who still works today helping to dye wool for the association.

Made from 100% live wool, Khadija's sister carded, spun and dyed the wool all by hand. The base color is natural, undyed wool and the abstract designs come from a blend of spices and plants such as indigo stone, saffron, henna, and pomegranate skin.

The design of this pieces feel modern, thought it represents thousands of years of artistic tradition.
