Single Hue, A Study in Restraint

Single Hue, A Study in Restraint

Sometimes the most intentional thing is simplicity.

Single Hue was built around that idea, one color, no pattern, no contrast, no distraction. Just the quiet complexity that happens when you let material and technique do the talking.

Each rug is woven in a single color, allowing texture, hand, and natural wool variation to take the lead. Subtle shifts emerge through knot density, pile height, and the character of the wool itself, creating depth without relying on a second color to define the design.

Made by hand in Morocco, Single Hue pieces are designed to live easily within a room. They anchor without overpowering, offering a calm foundation that lets form, light, and life unfold around them.

Why one color still feels dimensional

When a rug is monochrome, everything else becomes more visible.

You notice the way the surface catches sunlight in the morning. You feel the difference between a tighter knot and a looser one underfoot. You see how the wool holds nuance, even within the same dye. What looks simple at a glance becomes layered up close.

That is the intention behind Single Hue, restraint as a way of revealing more, not less.

Custom, in the ways that matter

Single Hue is built to be flexible. You choose what changes the feel of the rug most: pile height, knot style, and color. Because the collection is one color, these physical choices become the design language.

Choose your color

Single Hue can be made in a range of tones, from soft neutrals to deeper saturated hues. If you do not see the exact color you are looking for, email us, we can explore custom options together.

Four Weaving Approaches, Four Different Expressions

Single Hue may look consistent from afar, but the weaving style changes everything: the hand, the density, the softness, and the way the surface reads.

Medium-to-High Hand-Knot

This knot style draws from Beni M’rirt traditions, where rugs are crafted using a dense, thick knotting technique. The result is especially plush and luxurious, with a surface that feels substantial and soft underfoot.

Best for: living rooms, bedrooms, anywhere you want warmth and comfort
Feel: plush, cushioned, quietly elevated

Low Hand-Knot

These rugs are most commonly found among southeastern tribes in and around the Siroua region. The pile is shorter than rugs woven in northern regions, yet the pieces remain soft, warm, and inviting.

A key technical distinction is in the process: artisans typically pre cut the wool before weaving it onto the loom, whereas in many northern regions the wool is cut after it has been looped around the loom. That difference affects the finish and gives low pile rugs their clean, even profile.

Best for: dining rooms, high traffic areas, entries, layered spaces
Feel: tailored, soft but streamlined, easy to live with

Royal Hand-Knot

Royal hand knot is a historic technique with roots dating back to the 17th century, when artisans fleeing Andalusia after the Reconquista brought advanced textile traditions to Morocco.

Often compared to a tufted rug in density and finish, this technique uses exceptionally fine wool to create a luxurious, high quality surface. Historically, this style signaled status and wealth, found in royal courts and aristocratic homes.

Best for: formal spaces, refined interiors, design lovers who want heirloom level detail
Feel: dense, polished, incredibly fine

Flatweave

Flatweaves, known locally as Hanbel or Aknif, are thin, soft, and exceptionally strong. Woven without pile, they are lightweight yet durable, with patterns that traditionally carry deep symbolic meaning.

All of our flatweaves are made in the south of Morocco, a region renowned for producing the highest quality flatweave textiles. The result is a versatile rug with a clean profile and lasting character.

Best for: layering, hallways, kitchens, sunny spaces, homes that like flexibility
Feel: light, strong, crisp, easy
