The Story Behind the Weave:
This rug will be handwoven by sisters, Fatima and Naima.
Fatima and Naima belong to a female-only weaving association just outside of Tazenakht, a town known for its weaving history.
This design is inspired by a vintage rug that their aunt made over 20 years ago.
The sisters will use 100% "live" sheep's wool that they will clean, brush and spin themselves.
It’s thought that this checkerboard design symbolizes barley and could be a wish for fertility for the weaver, or for the rug’s final home.
Each rug is made entirely by hand so there will always be small variations in pattern, color and exact size (up to 10 cm variation) due to the organic nature of the materials but we strive to accurately capture the detail and color so you know what you’re getting.
