The Story Behind the Weave:The Association Le Vieux Village is a beautiful collective of women artisans just outside of Tazenakht. This 35-year-old vintage Berber rug came to the association from a family on the outskirts of town. Fatima, pictured, was told the family’s Jedda, Arabic for grandma, wove this piece.Jedda spun and dyed all of the wool herself using 100% live wool. She used henna and pomegranate to create the red color, a blend of henna and saffron to create the orange hues, and indigo stone for the blue. The black fibers are undyed and 100% natural. You will find some light fraying on either end due this rug’s lifespan, but with proper care, this piece will endure for decades to come.
