Soukina and the Artisans of M’rirt
Soukina leads a group of 40 artisans from a village just outside Beni M’rirt in the Middle Atlas Mountains. Founded in the early 2000s by Soukina’s late mother, Keltouma, the collective specializes in medium to high hand-knot rugs, a style named after the region, as well as M’rirt Zanafi rugs, their own interpretation of the Zanafi style from the southeast. Traditional rugs from this area use a thick knotting technique that gives them an extra-plush texture.

Mixed Technique
Mixed weaving techniques represent a new modern technique where the artisan will bring two techniques she specializes in. The combinations could be endless either combining two techniques such as Zanafi x Hand-Knot, or three Hand-Knot, Flatweave and Zanafi.
These rugs usually showcase quite modern designs.
