This rug comes from husband and wife, Hma and Taoda. Hma and Taoda live in Ait Boukhtir, a traditional Berber village of only 197 people. Textiles are the primary source of income in the village. Hma grew up in the High Atlas Mountains, but moved to Ait Boukhtir when he met his wife. They’ve lived there for 15 years now, and Hma leads the daily call to prayer in the village. This rug was handwoven by Hma’s mother years ago in the High Atlas Mountains. The rich colors come from variations of henna, saffron, mint and alfalfa.
