The Story Behind the Weave:The Association Le Vieux Village is a beautiful collective of women artisans 3 miles outside of Tazenakht. This 40-year-old vintage Berber rug comes from a family just outside the center of town. This vintage beauty was originally woven by Fatima’s aunt and has been passed down through the generations. Her aunt cleaned, spun and dyed all of the wool herself using 100% live sheep’s wool. She used henna and pomegranate to create the red color and a blend of henna and saffron to create the orange hues. Fatima has brought this enduring vintage piece to the association so the other weavers could sell it on her behalf. With the money from the sale, Fatima and her family will help her nephew pay for college. You will find some light fraying on either end due the rug’s lifespan, but with proper care, this rug will endure for decades to come.
